Rethinking Theories and Concepts of Mediated Communication
A research conference to be held 13-14 September 2018 in Barcelona, Spain
Abstract submission deadline: 30 April 2018
This conference will explore how theories and concepts of mediated communication are being challenged in the face of digitization, globalization, and other trends.
- How is theorizing in fields such as political communication, media production (journalism, PR, advertising and entertainment), media structures and economics, health and science communication, media psychology and other areas being challenged in the face of recent trends.
- How might key concepts in communication research, such as audience, media exposure, or even mass communication, be re-articulated in the face of digitization, globalization, or other trends?
- How is normative theorizing about the media, including notions of press freedom, professionalism, journalistic objectivity and authority as well as the media’s role as “fourth Estate” challenged by digitization, globalization, or other trends.
- The conference welcomes original English-language submissions of theoretical and conceptual essays (we are not looking for empirical studies).
This conference is cosponsored by the University of Missouri School of Journalism, Nanyang Technological University, and LMU-Munich, and hosted by Missouri’s Barcelona office.
